About this place
What remains of the prison the French colonial administration began building in Hà Nội in 1896, later used to hold captured American pilots during the war and nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton. Most of the site was cleared in the 1990s; the surviving gatehouse and cell blocks are now a museum, and an hour covers it.
Only the gatehouse, now a museum, remains of this storied prison for POWs during the Vietnam War.
