Give it slow mornings — phở on a low stool, egg coffee above Hoàn Kiếm Lake — and evenings when the lakeside streets go car-free at the weekend. The centre is best on foot, and most of it fits into a few unhurried days.

October to December brings cool, dry, golden days. Spring (February–April) is mild with light drizzle; summer is hot and humid with bursts of rain.
How do I get in from Nội Bài airport?
The airport is ~45 minutes north of the centre. Metered taxis, ride-hailing apps and the express 86 bus all run the route.
How do I cross the street?
Walk out steadily and predictably — the scooters flow around you. Never step back suddenly or run.
Cash or card?
Cards and QR payments are common in cafés and shops, but keep small cash (VND) for street food and markets.
Is Hà Nội walkable?
The Old Quarter and French Quarter are best on foot; for West Lake or the citadel, a short ride-hailing hop saves the midday heat.
